A legacy built through education
Donate Brazil is an initiative created by ALF INVESTING, a Brazilian educational holding company founded by Antonio Lago Filho, a Brazilian entrepreneur and philanthropist whose career has been shaped by a conviction: institutions can grow while creating lasting value for society.
That journey includes the creation and development of IPEMED, founded in Belo Horizonte in 2005 and expanded into a recognized medical postgraduate education institution with units in several of Brazil’s largest cities and international academic agreements, including relationships with institutions such as Harvard and the University of Miami.
In May 2019, IPEMED was acquired by Afya. Two months later, Afya completed its initial public offering on Nasdaq—an important milestone for a group that has since become a leading medical education and practice-solutions ecosystem in Brazil.

The experience of building an organization, expanding its reach and connecting knowledge with opportunity revealed a broader possibility: the same institutional discipline could help remarkable Brazilian nonprofits become more visible, more understandable and more accessible to supporters around the world.
Donate Brazil emerged from that idea—not as a conventional directory, but as a digital philanthropic platform. A space designed to disseminate reliable information, strengthen the culture of giving and transform attention into support for organizations producing real impact across Brazil.

Toronto is the international starting point for this new chapter. Brazil is the origin of our experience and the heart of every cause we promote. Miami expands our connection with the Brazilian diaspora and with people, families, companies and philanthropic networks across the Americas.
With a presence in São Paulo, Toronto and Miami, Donate Brazil brings local understanding and international reach into the same philanthropic bridge. This presence helps us listen more closely to organizations in Brazil, communicate their work across languages and connect it with supporters beyond geographic borders.
The organization is registered in Toronto as Who to Donate to in Brazil. Donate Brazil is its public-facing identity: a clear and memorable expression of the question we exist to answer.

Our role begins before a donation is made. We identify meaningful causes, organize institutional information, present each organization in accessible language and help its work reach audiences beyond geographic and language barriers.
Our editorial focus embraces Indigenous peoples and territorial rights, Brazil’s biomes and biodiversity, the Amazon and forest communities, scientific research and vaccine development, opportunity in favelas, cancer prevention and treatment, and dignity, prevention and rights for people living with HIV/AIDS. Each cause is presented through institutions and official channels that visitors can review directly.

A direct and transparent giving model
In the platform’s current phase, donations are completed directly through the official channels of the featured organizations. Donate Brazil does not hold or process these funds and does not issue tax receipts. As new fundraising mechanisms are introduced, each initiative will clearly identify the beneficiary, the flow of funds, any fees and the applicable reporting commitments.
